A quick and easy way to find useful information about your community, nearby schools and local businesses.

Newmarket sits just about straight North of the Toronto GTA, approximately 30Kms. Currently, we have about 81,000 residents in well laid out subdivisions, comprising a versatility of homes, parks, green areas, community centres, schools, both public and parochial. Communications routes to the North, East, South & West permit fast access across the GTA, including  fast routes to the Toronto Airport and to Buttonville, just 20 minutes to the South.  Highways 404, 407,401 and 400 are just a few minutes away.

*** Breaking News***  Effective July, 2010, the Southlake Regional Cancer Centre has opened to those suffering from these debilitating diseases. Offering the absolute latest in Diagnostic techniques, Treatment capabilities, and disease resolution - it eliminates long travel times for York region patients.

In addition, Southlake Regional Hospital offers ground-breaking surgical intervention techniques in the field of Cardiac disease, Pulmonary problems, and related illnesses. Southlake is truly a hospital for the people! (I heartily concur, having been a cardiac patient there twice!!).

The Quakers settled Newmarket at the beginning of the 19th century.

Its name derives from becoming the New Market to the north of the old Market, known as York (present day Toronto). Remember NEWMARKET when you are thinking of moving here, moving or starting your business here, or even retiring here - there are so many reasons why Newmarket is an ideal location choice.

In the Summer months, Newmarket holds its weekly Farmers' Market off Mulock Drive & west of Bayview - lots of fresh vegetables and fruits to choose from - The GARLIC festival is mid August each year- can you tell I LIKE GARLIC????

We are on the North edge of the GTA, with fast access to Hwy 404 (becoming the Don Valley Parkway); Hwy 400 on the West side with access to the West side of the GTA, Pearson International Airport and Mississauga / Brampton / Oakville & Burlington.

North of the GTA and running from Pickering to Burlington we have fast access to the Toll Highway 407 which really reduces time as part of the equation!!

So here is a typical question from someone who is looking for GTA access from Newmarket:

Newmarket and area sounds like a great place to live! But my spouse works Downtown in Toronto - What is the best way to get there from Newmarket?

First of all, if you don't need the car downtown, leave it at home, or park it at a GO Bus Terminal or GO Train station. The Local Bus System is also quite good for getting from home to the Train or Bus Stations. . . .

There are two fast routes to get to the Toronto Subway, one is the GO Bus which is quite fast - the other is the VIVA Bus System (the Blue Bus). Since the Subway starts at Finch & Yonge (at the moment and probably for the next 3-6 years), then work on using the VIVA Bus System from the Newmarket GO Terminal  (about every 15 minutes in the morning and evening Rush hours), down to Finch - then switch to the Subway and get off at your required stop.  As a time example, my wife did this for multi years and it takes about 1 1/2 hours from house near Davis & 404 down to Yonge & St. Claire; alternatively, about 1 3/4 hours down to Yonge & King.

If you MUST drive, then you have many choices from Newmarket:  you have the 400 which will take you down the west side, interfacing with Highway 7, and Hwy 407 and Hwy 401.

Alternatively, take the 404 which becomes the Don Valley Parkway at the 401 intersection and ends up at the Lakeshore and the Gardner Expressway.

Failing all that there are many straight roads running parallel to Yonge & the 400 or the 404 which are often faster than the 400 series of highways.
